The Night Market is a series of contemporary Taiwanese restaurants in Hong Kong inspired by the flavours and atmosphere of Taipei’s famed street-food culture. Centred around the notion of beauty in imperfection, the studio teamed up with British designer Michael Young to conceptualise the brand’s flagship store. By merging design disciplines, the materials took on experimental approach, utilising industrial processes and oxidisation to capture aesthetic cues discovered during time spent in Taipei.
The collaboration allowed product design to be developed alongside interiors including pendant lights constructed of folded Chinese newspaper and a range of aluminium tables and chairs. Hong Kong ceramicists, Latitude 22N, were commissioned to produce a series of ceramic vessels for display as well as tableware that also serves as a retail element.
